"Amor Vincit Omnia" (Love Conquers All)

Once in a while, I get inspired to do something completely alien to what I usually create. So here is "Love Conquers All" or " Amor Vincit Omnia". Let's hope it's true!

World's Longest Yard Sale 2009!

This is our second year attending the "World's Longest Yard Sale" that starts in Gadsden, Alabama and meanders through route 127 all the way up to Ohio! Over 700 miles of stuff! We only made it as far as Dunlap, Tennessee this year since our rental minivan was completely full by day three! I have posted a very small sampling of the amazing stuff we found on our trip!
Love these clocks and the 50's spice rack!
I found this beautiful 1950's Royal Song Celeste China for $12!
These BAD ASS lamp shades fit a BAD ASS lamp I found on day 2 in Tennessee for $30!
The find of the trip for me was this perfect fiberglass lamp shade and lamp each found in different place for soooooooo cheap!
More lamps, pottery, jewelry, 50's hats, canisters, a Lane dovetail coffee table, a danish modern cherry bar, a huge starburst clock, and the list goes on and on!
We also found this AMAZING danish modern vanity bench, a gorgeous radio for Jeffrey to restore (we founds lots of little radios, too) and this little 50's fan in perfect working condition!
We actually came home with money again this year! I think we will have to rent a full size van next year!
Anyone else attend this years' sale? What did you find?

Sew Awesome!

Several years ago, I licensed some my work to Hancock Fabrics. They produced 10 different designs with my cats, ladies, TVs and radio patterns. I have been collecting images of what people have made with it and I am blown away by the TALENT of these artists! I can sew a little, but I don't have the skills to make anything but a curtain or a simple pillow. I am currently looking to license my newer work for more fabric!

Who's for Dinner?

"Who's for Dinner"
16x20 Acrylic on Canvas
I've had this oval canvas hanging in my studio for YEARS! I was sketching a few months ago and I came up with this one... my shifty little owl is trying to decide what to hunt for today. Living in South Louisiana, I have seen nature at it's purest, including birds of prey snatching up cute little animals on a daily basis! It's quite gross I must say. Large birds would circle my yard when puppy Penny would go out to do her business!
So here we have "Who's for Dinner" and it is available in my Etsy Shop and in my gallery space at Aladdin's Lamp here in BR.

You can't always get what you want!

"You Can't Always Get What You Want"
Mixed Media 2009
Kerry Beary
But if you try sometimes... you get what you need!
I found these ceramic letters at a garage sale several months ago. They were intended for making your own movie titles for your home movies in the 50's & 60's! I wanted to do something special with them, but I had no idea what. So one day I was listening to the Stones as I was playing with these letters and all of a sudden I noticed that I spelled out "want" and the rest just came together. I adhered them to a piece of wood that I painted robin's egg blue and VIOLA! This piece is made completely of found and recycled objects, including the paint! I wish I had more letters... I could do this again and again. Now I have so many cool ideas... better get to those yard sales!

Here Kitty Kitty Kitty...

"Black Cat Print Set"
Four 6x6 Giclee Prints by Kerry Beary
http://www.kerrybeary.etsy.com/
What's up Pussycat? Wooahooahaooahoooh
Why black cats? Why not. I love the graphic nature of these cool cats. I have always been drawn to black cats and I started drawing them back in high school. Once I began working as an artist full time, I combined my love for kitties with my other passion... mid-century modern design! These are a small portion of my pussy portfolio: Take a look at all of my kitties on my website:http://www.kerrybeary.com/ or my shop: http://www.kerrybeary.etsy.com/ I also love working with cat charities like N.O.A.H and Sacred Cat who rescue cats, foster them, spay & neuter and find permanent homes for the thousands of homeless, abused, and neglected cats.

What about your cats? Please share your black (or any color) cats with me here! I would also love to hear about your rescue stories!

I love Garage Sales!

"Red Head" by Kerry Beary
2x3" Gouache on Illustration Board
I love yard sales! I get up early every day... but I try to get up a bit earlier on the weekends to catch the worm! I have been buying other peoples crap for years... and I always find the most amazing things. Especially at the estates or sales held by the family of the deceased! They can't wait to get rid of their parents stuff and make BANK! I will show off many of my fabulous finds here on my blog, but you also see many of my recent aquisitions on my FLICKR - www..flickr.com/kerrybeary
These little paintings were inspired by a recent find. I stumbled upon a box of old plaster and gesso frames for 25 cents a piece. My brother (who rocks) gave me an awesome set of Holbein Goauche for Christmas and I am finally getting around to playing with them!

Wow! Twice in one week!

"Dachshund" 4 x 8 acrylic on wood

Yes folks... I have outdone myself! Two posts in one week. I doubt I can keep up this momentum... but I will try!

Here is "Dachshund". I found some old wooden plaques at a garage sale last weekend and the shape of this one inspired my weenie illustration.

If you don't already know... I LOVE weenie dogs. I have three (and a Corgi who thinks she's a weenie) and it all started years ago when my friend Mary Ann introduced me to her boy Dutch. He was the sweetest, funniest, most awesomest dog... so I had to get one, two, three... of my own and they are the loves of my life (besides my husband of course). She and her husband also had a Saint Bernard at the same time! I wish I had a picture!

So I will post my dachshunds from past and present here and there.

And here is Lucy! She is my first and best! She is 10 years old and as fiesty as ever!

9 pounds of pure attitude!

A year has gone by....

"Kitchen Utensils" 5x7 Giclee on Premium Watercolor Paper

... since I established this silly blog and I have yet to add any content. I decided that it's time to get with the program a POST SOMETHING!!! So here is my first official post and hopefully the beginning of a daily (ok let's get real) or bi-weekly contribution to my bla bla blog! I welcome any and all comments, but please be gentle, as I am quite fragile!
Psyche!

So, I will begin with this group of 5 x 7 giclee prints that I put out a few months ago. They are quite popular, especially here in Baton Rouge! I offer the design in four colors to compliment any kitchen decor! The original image is from an old cookbook from the early 1950's. (I sound like a frickin' commercial)! They are available at http://www.kerrybeary.etsy.com/
